Well hello thar! I know it’s kind of surprising but yes, I am back today coz it seems I can’t sleep with all these thoughts about my recent vacation clogging my brains and all. So I might as well pollute yours.

Me and my girlfriend just came back from my beloved hometown Lucban, Quezon. It was a trip filled with utter nostalgia; one that is so big it will not fit on this speck of bloggy-thoughts that I want to share today. So let’s just start with the picture above.

Beautiful isn’t it?

For the benefit of those who don’t have the slightest idea what the picture is, it’s the enormous image Jesus Christ from the infamous “Grotto” founded by my equally infamous kababayan Fr. Joey Faller, settle on top of a hill outside the town. Now what’s so special about this one anyway?

We are on a vacation… My girlfriend forgot to bring her digital camera…

We shrugged the idea off our heads when we learned about the said matter while we were perched inside a humid “colorum” van being pulled over by a couple of hungry LTO officials since as we all know, my GF’s brother is the Unit Head of Central C 2C Fatima; who had just happened to celebrate their CLP baptism last Saturday.

So as we stared outside the craggy van and lamented on how uniformed men lose their dignity, we just laughed on our dumb luck and just thanked the Lord that her brother will have a camera to use on his Unit’s special Saturday.

So why am I talking about that picture again?

Armed with only our mobile phones, we snapped through 4 suns and 3 moons worth of pictures like there was no tomorrow. But alas, as you could actually imagine, the quality of our short-legged megapixel phone cams ranged from bad to insanely hideous.

I know it’s not really a genuine possibility to get good quality pictures from half-charged mobile phones but this was one of those rare occasions where me and my girlfriend actually went together on a long vacation; and was actually sane enough to plan on going to numerous places all marked by a once-in-a-lifetime chance of us to be actually free for more than 2 days aside from Christmas.

So there I was, literally cursing my breath away is I finally finished climbing 300 or so steps up to the statue of “Bro” himself. I was actually swearing on top of my lungs that I would really force myself into buying an SLR this coming Holiday as I eased myself at the very feet of the lofty statue.

As I gasped and wheezed on that very spot (thanks to quite a few extra servings or rice under my belt…), I then impulsively whipped out my trusty Motorola from my pocket and flipped it open like Jackie Chan flicking out a cigarette lighter; As I did the other day and the day before that. I just held it up high and snapped randomly on the first thing that ever touched its handicapped lens…

…and on that moment,

God gave me a really serious photograph…

What the hell was I thinking… lol…

I am a man full of doubts, that’s a fact. I may be a happy-go-lucky person who seems to not really care about almost everything but I do have doubts. There I was lamenting on such a handicap as not having what I want and there and then, God actually gave me what I wanted to have.

Me and my girlfriend ended up enjoying the whole menagerie of events after that; still full of mishaps and sorts of stuffs which is worthy of yet another story.

No more excuses on this blog for me. Let’s just say we’ll just do this one again, one miracle at a time…

I had a blast… period…

The past year was of course a good one but I really had my own share of problems; and I highly doubt it’s gonna end early this year. But enough about that, personal na yun eh…

Ay syet… nag-tagalog bigla…

Matagal akong nawala yep, and it’s for a good reason; nag-karoon ng mga aberya sa buhay, mga projects kailangang tapusin, mga deadlines na kailangang habulin… mga bagay na naging dahilan kung bakit natuto na akong mag-laba ng gabi kesa sa umaga (salamat mahal kong washing machine… *yakap*).

Yep, naglaho akong parang bula…

Come to think of it, almost 2 years na din pala akong nagsusulat dito… madaming criticisms, madaming comments, syempre may mga naasar pero expected na yun… Tuloy ang ligaya…

Bring it on 2009…

ZOOOOOM!!!

1. Cyclone Loop (Star City)
2. Go Kart Racetrack (Enchanted Kingdom)
3. Patok Jeeps (yung byaheng Stop n’ Shop)
4. EDSA Buses (preferrably yung papuntang Sapang Palay)

Thanks Giving pala ngayon.

Kamsahameda~ (thank you in Korean…)

I’m sitting in front my computer again, and again I’m having this irritating phenomenon called a writers block. I’m done with the first half of the book by the way, and that’s hooray for me.

After skirmishing through the last of my blog posts a few days back, I realized that I really do suck when it comes to the grammatical sense on how I write. Of course it’s not usually the case when it comes to blogs because it IS a free speck on the web but in any case, why call myself a writer when indeed my works suck?

I am recently having a slump at work due to the fact that this economic crisis is just around the corner and that it actually caused me to lose my beloved office table which was the biggest one that I ever had ever since I started working on offices way back 2k5. And the rest of it resting at the brink of destruction if our company happens to lose its footing as well…

Going back to the community,I’m also considered as an MIA member since there are no such text messages about such activities that are supposed to be circulating around this time. I just hope everybody is safe enough to tango again next year…

And yes now I am sitting in front of my computer again; and this is the type of crap that comes out of my mind whenever I do so…

There and then eh naalala ko yung isa sa mga pangaral sakin ni kuya Donnie, yung editor ko na prof sa Lasalle; “Writing is a gift that not all people have”.

Yes, like most of you people reading this right now, most likely you’re expecting another entry that is subjective to nosebleeds. Fear not, because after the first blog post here in my teki-teki section, my friends already gave you a favor and stopped me before the cannibals do. In return, I then promised them that I would write in a friendlier manner; not like a scholarly nerd who is doing an experimental thesis to compliment his new theory in Particle Acceleration…

Don’t ask me about the last one, I sure hell don’t know that as well…

Anyway, as a person who like to dis-assemble and re-assemble PC’s as a pastime, surely I have my own share of adventures with it; so maybe that’s what I will be focusing on right now. No more blood loss… lol…

Talk to the Hand…

A few days ago, my hands were literally aching after a days of typing non-stop evaluations and articles and playing ridiculous games like NBA 2k9 and Devil May Cry 4 (I usually do this during breaks to preserve my sanity when writing something) and the only culprit I could think of is my clunky CDRKing keyboard.

Don’t get me wrong, but low quality keyboards usually give out that “Bang for the Buck” impression that people like me; brand-blind and all, really love. It’s just that I hate having the ever painful “Carpal Tunnel Syndrome” especially since my work mostly revolves around computers; for the love of God…

The Keyboard is one of the contraptions that normal, technologically savvy people use every day. I know time will come that we can just order our computer around verbally (seriously, my computer accepts voice commands) but since you can’t just yell around in your house while happily chatting with people, or let’s say blurt out your top-secret computer password while you’re in the same room as your equally perverted brother, I’d go manual anytime.

Brief history…

Contrary to popular belief, there are a few keyboard layout designs out in the market. The first one to break out though, was the “QWERTY” keyboard by a man named Christopher Sholes back in 1967. It was originally designed for the first set of Remington typewriters released around the same year.

The aim for such a design is to let the hands alternate while typing English words. A lot of people disagree with this thought because it has already been proven that it was a bit biased with the left hand; although a hundred years later, it became more convenient for right handed people because of the conception of computers and the invention of the mouse.

There are also other keyboard layouts which have been developed over the years in the quest to fix the flaws of the original QWERTY design.

In the quest to take away subjected left-hand stress of the QWERTY layout, the Dvorak was born. But it failed as a typewriter norm due to the fact that even though it was a little unfriendly to the hands, it was friendlier to the machine. Dvorak typewriters were a bit prone to machine jam, so it was not followed as avidly as the latter.

The AZERTY on the other hand, was developed in contrast to the English-biased form of the QWERTY. Countries such as Belgium and France started using this design during the 1980’s and they still do today; as it is friendlier to use with their own language.

A Hunting We Will Go!

Seriously, if you don’t know Carpal Tunnel Syndrome yet, you should try to Google it; it really is the nightmare of chatters these days. As for me, I’m hunting for a good keyboard that does that is light on my hands. I trip to the local PC store in Greenbelt showed me a lot of choices; flashy backlit keys, integrated USB hubs from different names like Genius, Logitech and A4tech; all for the sake of being unique while retaining its functionality. I just picked up a simple Logitech that has keys that are light to the touch; at least now I can relieve myself from stress.

Yeah, I know you guys can’t make out what I’m trying to say on this entry but the hell with it. I want to make an entry about keyboards because they are so neglected these days; until your hands start to ache like mine. I’m still warming up on writing again because of a year-long slump; just help me out by minding the cheeky subjects okay?

Teki post #2: Home-Grown PSP…

Posted November 9, 2008 by patatasx
Categories: Geek Zone...

I was chatting with my friend Mick during the wee hours of the morning and was asking him about topics to discuss on my teki post since I was not in the mood to think of one on my own. He actually wanted me to write a topic about something about his much adored PSP. I gave in any way since I am having the usual weekend slump.

Frankly speaking, the ever delectable PSP is one of the gadgets that I have really been avoiding ever since it was unveiled way back in E3 2004. Not that I am sick and tired of Sony doing beautiful things such as the almighty “Bravia” and the oh so glorified Play Station 3; the darn thing is just so flexible in any possible way that I might not be able to anything but just glue my greasy nose in front of it doing “God Knows What” (‘Echhi’ Mp4 anyone?) eventually turning my life into the path of addiction once again.

Surfing the web, playing games, playing MP3’s and yes, watching porno; to me, this is much more useful to me than buying myself a more, work-oriented laptop. But among the hundreds of things that you can do with it, I always wanted to question why oh why did Sony make a “Prodigal Son” that is capable of freeing itself from the loving arms of its creators.

The Firmest of the Firm…

To anyone who owns a PSP and knows how to play Gameboy games on it, I’m pretty sure you already know what I’m talking about. I did say that I don’t own a PSP but it doesn’t really mean that I won’t help my cousins crack theirs. Ah the endless possibilities that a single handheld device could do…

I know I’m not explaining much to the people, who think I’m talking in Ancient Chinese language here but technically, giving your beloved PSP some ‘Homebrew’ lovin’ will make it do all sorts of stuff; like playing downloaded games. I mean who else plays PSP games using UMD anyway?

Home-cooked goodness…

The word “Homebrew” is a terminology which is pretty much applied to video games using gaming platforms that can be coined as “User-Programmable”. To all of the gaming platforms that were ever released, with respect to the early Super Nintendo Entertainment System and the first generation Play Station, the PSP is the most flexible one yet.

It all started one fateful day when the world was still in awe on the little contraption that the bored PSP owners who got tired of playing on those official “UMD” (Universal Media Disc) cartridges found a way to rummage through the contents of the game itself; due to a small hole that some game developers left off on their games. This incident paved the way for persistent hackers to crack the very technology that the platform itself is running on; bending its rules to accept their own, in a really fun and productive sort of way.

Sony actually released their own set of updates to prevent the use of modified firmware that defy that of their own, but homebrew modifications like that of “Illuminati” and “Dark AleX” really showed Sony how ‘open’ their platform really is. I don’t know what went wrong here but I’m not complaining.

And the Battle Continues…

I did not write this one here to explain to you the joys of having a PSP and how to unlock its hidden possibilities. Sony already has too much problems about firmware revisions sprawled over the web and writing another guide about it just isn’t my cup of tea. If you wanna learn more about cracking your shiny new PSP over there, Mr. Google is your friend; not me.

Piracy is everyone’s best friend and a developer’s worst enemy; that goes even for games nowadays. Not everyone who can afford a PSP can afford its menagerie of “Official” games; I mean like most internet buffs here always say why buy it when you can download for free? Touché’…

The mere fact that such a simple device would pose a threat to the market share of such a big powerhouse like Sony just shows how persistent end users can be. I’m not saying that Sony created a defective product; even the ever adorable Nintendo DS has its own share of mishaps with the Homebrew crowd. People nowadays are just hard customers I think; not easily satisfied and always wanting more than they are offered to.

Tapos ngayon kulang na lang eh ipag-novena natin na sana eh tulog tayo at least 12 hours a day.

Tekky Post #1: Brief Introduction to CPU Multi-processing

Posted November 2, 2008 by patatasx
Categories: Geek Zone...

Tags: ,

Well I did say that I’ll be going mainstream so as much as I hate it, please do mind the very cranky English. As I’ve promised, I will do some ‘techie’ articles for MasterDiwa.com forums just to enlighten everybody on the things that are happening in and out of the technological stuffs nowadays. Take note that I am not really that much of a geek or something; and I am no pro whatsoever. All accounts being stated here are fruits of thorough research and years of experience on getting my hands grimed with PC parts starting from my “Socket A” Cyrix M-200 pc to my currently overclocked “socket AM2” Athlon X2.

So without further ado, the first thing that I want to discuss this week is all about “CPU Multi-Processing”.

The Need for Speed…

Before, if you were as young as me, people would often brag about with their neighbors or classmates or anyone who understands anything about computers on how fast their computer are and on how far they have managed to overclock it to kingdom come. Back in those days, around the time of the much heralded Intel Pentium 3 vs. AMD Athlon rivalry, everyone was on the lookout on who would go past the 1 Gigahertz processing-speed mark first; and when they did (all the way to Intel Pentium 4 Extreme 3Ghz), every geek and the world was happy.

But all that brawn would hit a wall eventually, because these babies were HOT; in a not so Paris Hilton kind of way. By the time everyone was running blazing fast computers playing games like the first generation “Need for Speed” and “WarCraft 3”, engineers were already smashing their heads together on how to make the already hot and crispy “CPU Processors” faster without making them hotter than hell. So they needed to come up with a better solution before everyone gets toasty…

Two Heads are Better than One…

Contrary to popular belief, the first one who unveiled the first true Dual-Core design was neither Intel nor AMD; it was IBM’s “POWER4 PowerPC” architecture. The said processor was specially optimized for server usage and was the very same design that was slapped in the then very powerful “Power Mac G5” way back in the year 2000.

The idea behind such architecture was not to speed everything by brawn; they found a better way by making two actual processors work side-by-side as one single CPU. Thus making things work faster and cooler without sacrificing heat and other technological issues.

Macintosh power Mac users actually had a 5-year advantage against PC users because it was just on April 2005 when AMD released their own server-based Dual-Core “Opteron” with Intel releasing their own “Xeon” variants a few months later. Support for home-based PC operating systems (your beloved windows) was also a bit late because “Windows XP” was the first of its kind to support multi-processing technology for the current Intel “Pentium 4 Extreme” and AMD “Athlon 64 X2” processors during that time.

And the legacy continues…

The trend is still followed nowadays, as Quad-Core processors (four CPU’s) are already a norm to workstations and some personal computers. Intel takes the step ahead as it finally unveils to the public its Octo-Core (eight CPU’s) pioneer christened under the name “Nehalem”; which again is a sight to behold for almost all people who knows anything about computers. AMD’s current “Phenom” line-up however is currently offering power-saving Triple-Core variants for those who are eco-friendly in mind.

Technology these days is so fast that we were able to achieve what people before attained in a lifetime. Thanks to such technology, computers were no longer Cabinet-Sized contraptions that need a decent power-plant to function. Today, it all boils down to something so small it can fit into your hand; and on how many “workers” it has inside.

Hello guys! I’m baaack!

lol…

Yeah I know I’ve been out for a long time again and that some of you are waiting for those geeky messages that I usually type here that usually ends up as yet another reason to commit ungodly sins. Well, sort of…

I’ve just been too busy lately juggling some personal problems and other not so personal matters and I will discuss them little by little on the weeks to come. The last 2 weeks has been a bit terrible due to the fact that I had to sacrifice a few things to make ends meet and to keep up with my other responsibilities. Thank God I’m finished with them so I can safely say that we’re back on our natural programming. ..

But just a short explanation on why I’m babbling in English now: http://patatasx. wordpress. com/

Yep, after nearly a year of being hogged into doing it; I finally put up my own blog. (masaya ka na madel? >:))

In this blog I will integrate some of the things that I write for the 3 major nuisances that I have on my personal literary life. First off is of course my write-ups here in our yahoo groups, the other is the English articles that I will continue doing for my Korean company and last is the Geeky Articles I am planning to write for the Gaming website / forums that I help manage: http://www.masterdiwa.com/forum/

Ah yes, if you could just see me twitching in front of my computer screen just to cook of for the design of this atrociously colored blog. Oh yeah, a lot of people are already asking me why I chose the stupid name; It was the name of my old blog in Friendster and I thought I’d just use it as a sign of homage to where it all started: http://hotpatatasin abox.blog. friendster. com/

And so with that, take care guys and I hope to see you you again soon!

(Hay sa wakas pwede na ulit mag-tagalog. .. Kung bakit kasi kelangan pang international pa yung dating eh… God Bless ^-^V)
